The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The former head of state was convicted of planning a military coup in last fall and given more than a 27-year term in jail, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after recent developments emerged.

He said the gathering would be so backers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our nation."

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of orchestrating a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the national vote to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

He was also prohibited from running for public office until the year 2060 - eight years after the end of his sentence.

The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was intended to stop him participating in the next presidential race.
