Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
