Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have discovered a variety of interesting independent titles. However, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a hero that is literally a piece of poop attempting to travel to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: press a one button to leap. Throughout numerous stages, battle boss fights and access a market to buy customizations for your fecal avatar.

Time your actions with caution, since one error forces restarting the level. Bounce on floating orbs to hurl your character to new heights, navigate crumbling platforms, and touch buttons to reveal secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS for buying tougher stages where things ramps up.

In terms of design, the demo boasts neon environments and an amazing music score. The retro graphics of moving abstract forms evokes memories of players of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though tough to name other games where you play as a dung character, interactive entertainment often incorporated scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. And of course, this theme is present extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, including taking top honors at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is accessible now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to launch on PC this November.
