Keely Hodgkinson Wraps Up Campaign with Victorious Performance at Athlos Meet in New York
Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.
The Olympic champion finished her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic champion, who secured third place at the global championships recently, dominated an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a year affected by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive event filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with live music and special crowns substituting standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the winners with their tiaras.
Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The competition also attracted several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, finishing in 4:17.78.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
