Manchester Synagogue Incident: A Casualty Appears to Have Been Fired Upon by Officers

During a tragic development, one of the victims lost at the Manchester synagogue attack appears to have been shot dead by armed police officers.

Police Announcement Reveals Gunshot Wound

The chief constable from the local force announced that a forensic expert has provisionally determined the victim died of a gunshot wound.

“We sought guidance overnight from the Home Office pathologist before full postmortem examinations scheduled for this afternoon. The Home Office pathologist indicated that preliminary findings show one of the deceased victims would appear to have suffered a injury consistent with a gunshot injury.”

Attacker Information

The assailant, a 35-year-old individual, did not have a gun, and the only shots fired came from authorized firearms personnel at the scene.

It is believed the victim was among those positioned at the entrance seeking to prevent the assailant from gaining entry.

Consequences of Police Action

“It follows therefore that subject to additional analysis, this injury may sadly have been sustained as a tragic and unforeseen consequence of the urgently required action taken by our personnel to halt this brutal assault.”

Names Released

The two victims who lost their lives during the synagogue incident in north Manchester on Thursday had been named as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, 66 years old.

These individuals were killed when a car was used to crash through the grounds of the local Jewish place of worship, before the attacker targeted attendees in a six-minute rampage that ended only when police with firearms fired upon him, killing him near the synagogue entrance.

Further Harm

Three others were seriously injured in the violent act on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish year.

The chief constable added, “Medical professionals have informed us that one of the three victims now hospitalized sustained a gunshot wound, which is fortunately non-fatal. It is believed the two individuals were near each other behind the synagogue door, as worshippers acted bravely to stop the assailant from getting inside.”

Ongoing Assistance

“We extend our condolences are directed toward the affected relatives, and the wider community, impacted by this incident across Greater Manchester and beyond. Specialist officers are offering aid and assistance for all of those directly affected, including the courageous emergency teams.”

Suspect Background

Authorities identified the perpetrator as the individual, 35, a British citizen of Syrian descent.

Greater Manchester police said that three additional individuals – two male suspects and an older female – had been detained “for alleged involvement in planning of acts of terrorism”.
