Whenever a prominent honors show draws close, there’s always an outcry for introducing additional classifications to honor unsung work and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
The Representation Problem
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
- One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category in 2014
- A different innovative game missed out in 2019
- A beloved organization game was overlooked in 2021
- Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles globally and have been for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier game development, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
